Something Blue

My daughter is in a book club at school and they are reading The Lightning Thief right now. They also do this during lunch time, so it is totally voluntary. Can you tell she loves to read? That's my girl!

The teacher leading the club told them that on Tuesday they need to wear blue and see how many things they can bring in their lunch that is blue. The one with the most, gets a prize. We were brainstorming and came up with a few basic ideas and then I had an "Ah HA" moment. I told her, "let's make blue bread!". She looked at me like I had a third eye then a grin spread across her face and she was totally with me.

Today, we made blue bread! :)

Seeing Spots
**I think I ended up putting about 50 drops of blue food coloring in the milk!

We Got Blue
**It's definitely blue!

Mix Er Up
**Time to add the flour and mix it up good!

Day 31 - Its Lookin At Me
**The dough was making faces at us. I'm not so sure it liked being blue..lol =P

Ready To Bake
**Twice to rise and it's still so pretty!

Fresh Out O fThe Oven
**Fresh baked bread makes the house smell soooo good. Even if it is blue :)

Kid Tested
**Kid tested. No, she's not yellow from food poisoning =P

Kid Approved
**Kid totally approves and is sure she is going to get the prize just for having blue bread :)

I'm disappointed those last few photos didn't come out so well. It was getting late and I just couldn't find a spot with good lighting. Oh well, you get the jist.

Now, I know you want to make your own blue bread, you know you do too. Here is a previous post that I did on how I make my bread, the only difference is that you have to add the food coloring to the milk. You could make lots of colors. Ohhh..Rainbow Bread. The possibilities are endless ;)

Baby Got Back

It was definitely a long week with out my sewing machine, but I made it, and she's back! Yay! However, now I am sick so I don't entirely even feel like sewing, but last night I spent some time with her catching up on one of my quilt alongs.

Today I had to run to a quilt store nearby and they had just gotten new jelly rolls in. I just could not resist, I mean, with the name of my blog and stuff. It was just calling out to me :)

Day 30 - Whimsy

On another note...I found a reason to like Wal-Mart. They make commercials that make my kids laugh so hard they almost pee their pants. They are even giggling now as I am posting this, which in turn is making me giggle so that I can barely type..LOL. Thank goodness for spell checker!

Letters We Write

I remember being in school and I would write at least one letter a day, if not 10, to my friends...lol. With today's technology and all the different modalities of sending messages like email, text messaging or even instant messaging, letter writing seems to be a thing of the past. I personally do not remember when the last time was that I actually sat down to write a letter. The only time I really even "write" anything in my own penmanship is to sign a document or to send a note to school or writing out Christmas cards. (Which this year I did not do..how crummy of me huh?)

My grandma is always getting on me about writing to her and I keep telling her to get an email address and she would hear from me all the time. However, they don't even have a computer. *gasp*. Yes I said it. No computer. Ghastly, I know...lol. Just kidding. I know I should write her more letters but writing an email is so much quicker. Then again, she'd never get it so that's pointless.

Today I sat down to write a few letters. One to a dear friend, and one to my grandma. By the time I was done writing the letter to my friend, my elbow was in pain. Apparently it can't remember the last time I wrote a letter either...hee hee. So, dearest grandma, you will get your letter, I just hope you will be able to read it. My poor penmanship has went down the drain over the years. Totally out of practice. Maybe I should go back to kindergarten. =P

Here's proof (Who needs proof? Well, no one. I just thought it would be a cool picture for my 365 days of photos...hee hee) that I actually DID write a letter, and hopefully I can get in the groove of writing more, by hand, because it is more personal and because I need practice writing. :)

Day 25 - Letters We Write
**Notice the GI-NORMOUS ink pen? My daughter won that the other night and I begged her to let me have it. She is such a good daughter. I might even let her use it once in a while...lol! :D

Oh, and on a completely different note. Do you remember about a year or so ago when they had that live stream cam going on the Shiba Inu puppies? Oh-Em-Gee! They are back!! Well, a different litter anyway. How am I supposed to get anything done while having to watch these cutie pies grow up? I dare you to only look once. =P

Going Down

Do you remember yesterday when I talked about having a bad day, but sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself? Today wasn't nearly as bad, but I do have another funny.

We were waiting in line to go see another Ice Hogs game and the give-a-way tonight was a fleece blanket so there were a lot of people there early waiting in line because only the first 2000 or so received one. To pass the time I started messing with Bug a little bit by giving him gentle nudges, just gentle little pushes. He decided to go all boy on me and planted his feet and leaned full into me, pushing back. Yes I am bigger than him and can normally just plant my own feet and keep him at bay. However, while in line, the floors were like painted cement with rugs over them in the entryway. I was mostly on the rug but when I took a step back my foot hit the wet cement. I'm sure you can guess what happened next. Yep, down I went. Right on my keester!! The look on Bugs face was priceless! He kept telling me he was sorry and all I could do was laugh. Thank goodness there were only about 30 people behind me to see instead of the 400 or so that were in front of me.. LOL.

The game was fun too!! Except for the fact that I had to sit behind a stinky man and him and his family thought that it was ok to get up about 20 times during game play. =/ Do you know how many breaks there are in the game play in hockey?! A LOT! But nooooo...they couldn't wait to get up then. Even so, we won 5-2 and because we got 5 goals, everyone in attendance gets free ice cream at Culvers tomorrow! Yes!! Totally worth it! :D

Nine days until I get my machine back....yes, I'm counting.

I've been watching American Idol again this season. I find it quite refreshing that there are many, many, many, MANY others out there that sing way worse than I do....LOL. I'm not sure how some of those people even make it to the judging, but I suppose with out them the show would be quite boring in the beginning. Remember William Hung? He made it big...*giggles*. Another guy that everyone is talking about is General Larry Platt. Simon was right when he said he had a feeling that his audition would not be the last we heard of him. He's quite entertaining! Do you know anyone that can break dance at 62? :)

And then today in the local paper was this.. LOL

Day 23 - Pant's On The Ground

Don't get caught with your pants on the ground.... ;)

Hindsight Is Funny Funny

" If you can't laugh at yourself, life's gonna seem a whole lot longer than you like." ~ Sam, Garden State

So here I am at my new home, settling in. I used to be over at Whispering In Silence, but decided to make a change. My new happy place. Did you notice my turtles? Hee Hee :)

Right now it's 11:45 am on Friday. Let me tell you a little bit about my day and why I'm about ready to pull my hair out. First let me tell you that I took a few days off at the office, today being one of them, so I wanted a "me" day. Me, myself, and I. It was supposed to be a good day. Hmmpf.

After I got the kids off to school, I curled back in under my warm blankies and fell back to sleep. Ahhhh....nice, huh? Until....my son called me from school asking me if I knew where his mummy drawing was because he needed to turn it in today. I said, "the really big one with lots of colors that was cut out?". "Yes! That's it!". At this point I am swearing really loudly in my head and began to tell him, "Bug, I thought that was just something you brought home and didn't need anymore. I threw it away last week.". ***silence*** I am pretty much feeling like a shitty mom at this moment because I know he is thinking he will get in trouble because he didn't bring it in. I told him I would contact the art teacher and tell her what happened. I haven't heard back from her yet, but hopefully she will understand. Moral of that story? Ask your children if papers are needed BEFORE throwing them away. **hits self on forehead**

I couldn't go to back to sleep after that so I started cleaning up the house to take out my own frustration. That went as planned. Figures.

This was still a "me" day and I was still going to do something I enjoyed so I pulled out the fabric for my daughters quilt and started having at it. Apparently I wasn't paying close enough attention because I sewed a big part of it wrong, so I had to use Jack (Jack the Ripper...my seam ripper...lol) and take part of it apart. I sewed it back together, just to find out I did it wrong AGAIN!! Seriously! What is wrong with me. Argh!

Day 22 - Jack The Ripper

I finally get that all squared away but during the process my machine started acting all wonky. The thread kept pulling out every time I'd start it. I'm not sure why as it was sudden. At this point I'm about ready to run around in a padded room screaming, I was so frustrated. I put the quilting stuff away and made a phone call to my local sewing center where I got my machine to see if they knew what was going on. They said they would have to look at it to be able to diagnose it. Of course, that makes sense. I asked how long they would need to keep it to look it over and clean it. He said a week, at least. A WEEK?! This really bites the big one because I don't have a back up machine and I have projects in the works and one that I will need to begin tomorrow. A week with out my machine...*sigh*.

A shower always makes you feel good, right? That's what I thought so off I went to take a nice hot shower, a long one. The one's where you get out and you can barely see in the bathroom over all the steam. Yeah...ahhhhhh.... :) It was great. Loved it. Just what I needed. Then...THEN I pulled the shower curtain to the side and noticed that there were no towels, because I had gathered them all up to put in the wash. =/ I stood there for a moment trying to decide if I should just stand there and air dry or go out in to the cold hallway and get a towel. Mind you, I have to walk through the cold bedroom to get to that hallway first. I went and got a towel and while drying off, I noticed it was a complete waste of time for me to have shaven my legs. Pathetic huh?

I think for the rest of the day I am going to just sit on the couch and veg. What can go wrong doing that? Unfortunately, I can't do that so I guess I'll just brave it and hope the rest of the day goes smooth.

Eeeeshh! It really sucked going through all that, but now that I'm typing it out, it really is kind of funny. Leave it to me. Maybe you got a laugh too. =P
